Flank Steak Information

Flank Steak is a lean, flavourful cut known for its bold taste and incredible versatility. Its fibrous texture makes it perfect for marinating, allowing it to absorb flavours deeply for a tender and juicy result.

Best suited for quick, high-heat cooking methods like grilling, broiling, or stir-frying, Flank Steak is a favourite for dishes such as fajitas, tacos, and salads. Thinly slicing it against the grain ensures maximum tenderness, making it a go-to cut for both weeknight meals and culinary experiments.

  • Cooking Made Simple: Grill, broil, or stir-fry for a fast, delicious meal.

Is flank steak a lean cut of beef?

Yes, flank steak is a lean cut of beef. It comes from the abdominal muscles of the cow and contains minimal marbling compared to fattier cuts like ribeye or short rib. While it's lower in fat, flank steak is still full of flavour and becomes tender when sliced thinly against the grain after cooking. It's a great option for grilling, stir-fries, or marinating for added tenderness.

What’s the difference between flank steak and skirt steak?

Both flank and skirt steak are flavourful, thin cuts of beef ideal for high-heat cooking, but they come from different parts of the cow and have slightly different characteristics:

  • Flank steak comes from the abdominal muscles. It’s leaner, slightly thicker, and has a more uniform grain. It’s best when marinated and sliced thinly across the grain.

  • Skirt steak comes from the diaphragm muscle. It has more marbling and a looser grain, which makes it more tender and rich in flavour—but slightly higher in fat.

Both cuts are excellent for grilling, stir-frying, or fajitas. If you're looking for a leaner option, flank steak is a better fit. For something more tender with deeper beef flavour, go with skirt steak.

Take your cooking to the next level with Flank Steak – ideal for bold marinades and vibrant dishes.
